...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM EASTERN
TX TO CENTRAL MS...
...SUMMARY... Robust convection may develop later tonight from
portions of east Texas to central Mississippi. Primary threats will
be isolated hail and damaging wind gusts, although a tornado can
not be ruled out after midnight.
...Eastern TX to Central MS...
Strong short-wave trough has progressed into the southern High
Plains early this evening and this feature will advance toward the
Arklatex by midnight. Over the next several hours, a weak surface
low should translate across north-central TX along a well-defined
boundary to near SHV ahead of the short wave. As a result, higher
boundary-layer moisture should return north across the lower MS
Valley with mid-upper 60s surface dew points likely approaching
the I-20 corridor from northeast LA into central MS by daybreak.
Forecast soundings across this eastern region suggest surface-based
thunderstorms could materialize after 09z with shear profiles
favoring supercells. Until then, isolated hail/wind may accompany
storms across eastern TX late this evening but somewhat greater
severe risk will be downstream overnight as boundary-layer moisture
returns northward.
