IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday October 22nd, 2023
IRTS Insurance Officer Required

The society is looking for your help, if you are willing, and in a position, to advise or assist the committee in the process of reviewing and replacing our current insurance policy, please contact a committee member or the society secretary. This forms an important part of our member service, and we welcome the experience of our members in completing this process.
EI0IRTS New Weekly News Bulletin

The IRTS news team is delighted to announce a new additional weekly EI0IRTS news bulletin. The new bulletin will be read by members of the Dundalk Amateur Radio Society EI7DAR on Wednesday evenings at 8:00 p.m. local time on the EI2CCR Clermont Cairn 2m repeater. A call in will take place after the news bulletin. If you are in a position to call in, please do and support this new weekly bulletin. This bulletin is of course on a trial basis. The IRTS would like to thank the members of DARS for this Wednesday night bulletin and wish them every success with it.
IRTS Youth Officer Required

The IRTS wish to thank Niall Donohue EI6HIB for his excellent service to the society in his role as IRTS Youth Officer over the past few years. Due to family and work commitments Niall has had to resign from his position and we all wish him well for the future. As a result of this, the IRTS is seeking a volunteer to undertake the role of Youth Officer.

The work the Youth Officer does is important in promoting the hobby to younger generations. Some responsibilities include organizing youth activities such as participating in YOTA contests, participation in the annual YOTA camp, and helping coordinate JOTA/JOTI. In addition, it involves liaising with other youth organizations such as scouting groups, the IARU YOTA group, and radio clubs.

This role comes with detailed handover documentation and a supportive committee to enable the new Youth Officer to get up to speed quickly and continue encouraging youth in our hobby. Anyone interested in taking on this role is asked to get in touch with any IRTS Committee member.
The National Maritime Museum of Ireland Special Event Station

The National Maritime Museum of Ireland amateur radio club EI0NMMI, in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the extraordinary rescue, in December 1943, of 168 German sailors in the stormy waters of the Bay of Biscay by the 10-man crew of the small Irish coaster MV KERLOGUE, will activate Special Event Call Sign EI80MB between November 2023 and April 2024. Full details and updates will be available on QRZ.com or via email to ei80mb /at/ gmail.com.
Upcoming South Dublin Radio Club Talk

On Tuesday October 24th, Ana EI5IXB will be at South Dublin Radio Club talking about the recent Amateur Radio School contact with the International Space Station. All are welcome to attend. The event starts at 8 p.m. sharp at Ballyroan community centre in Rathfarnham in Dublin.
Collective Communication Update

As the winter months roll upon us and the weather deteriorates, Collective Communication report that they will be pausing activities and reflecting on their achievements during 2023. Despite a few unanticipated shocks, like a broken axle, they still managed 19 activations at numerous locations throughout the country over the past eight months of activity. They report being busy so now they are going to take a break during the winter months. The time won't be totally without activity however as they'll be making some modifications to their mobile communications unit in readiness for 2024. Additionally, some members will be using the club call sign when operating portable during some of the odd less inhospitable days of winter, so you are asked to please listen out for EI3CC.

The club wishes to thank one and all who have helped them and wished them well as they've grown from non-existence during this past year. They are grateful and find it very reassuring to know their friends are supporting them. They didn't know they had so many supporters; their Facebook group now has 369 members and is growing weekly. They'll be back in 2024 and looking forward to even more activities.
Shannon Basin Top Band SSB Net Returns

Shannon Basin Radio Club announce the return of their 160m topband SSB nets on Monday nights starting from October 30th. The nets will run from 9 p.m. local time on Monday nights on 1.847MHz +/- QRM. As before, everyone is welcome to join including DX and local stations. SWLs are particularly welcome, and the club encourages SWL reports. Quite a few operators, including portable stations at times, use the opportunity to test experimental antennas and equipment to get on air for the net adding to the interest. This net complements the club s 80m SSB net that runs on Thursday nights from 9pm. Further details may be found at www.sbrc.ie or via the club's social media channels.
