Silent Key
Max Anak Bowerman VK7MBP

Born 26 August 1940 and went silent key peacefully while in hospital after a short illness on 21 December 2021 in his 80th year
.

Beloved father of Deborah, Kimbra, Maxwell, Richard and Thomas - father-in-law of David, Michael, Charlene, Jillian and Tania.
Loving Pop of twelve grandchildren and four great grand children.

Max was well known on the 80m morning net with Malcolm VK7NSS and other for over 30 years. Max was also a regular participant o
n the Sewing Circle Net and VK3 Rusty Spring Net.

Max was also a keen ballroom dancer and regularly attended dancing events in the Derwent Valley. He lived about 9km from New No
rfolk and grew an amazing garden with many fruit trees and would always give an on-air weather report for the Derwent Valley.

A service was held at New Norfolk and Gretna on 24 December 2020.

An interesting observation is that Maxâ€Ös amateur licence VK7MBP expired on 1 January 2021 – I think Max might have known so
mething!

A true gentleman.

Vale Max.

NEWS FROM THE NORTHWEST
NW Tassie Amateur Repeater Group Net

The NW Tassie Amateur Repeater Group Net on VK7RMD last Wednesday night , had an unexpected but welcome visitor, VK2NWT Angelo
joined in on the Net check-in.

Eric VK7EV net controller thought he was on holiday in Tasmania, but Angelo advised he was travelling from Cooma to Jindabyne i
n NSW ,and was talking to us through the VK3RDH repeater on Delegate Hill at a height of 1300M and about 508km from VK7RMD, on
the NSW / Victorian border.

The repeater was a solid S5 to S7 for most of the net, and Angelo was able to participate in a few rounds of the net, with the
8 Tasmanian participantâ€Ös from NW & Nth Tassie, with most of the local amateurs able to hear Angelo.

NWTR&TVG News Announcements

We have a big day coming up on the next meeting day as it is our AGM, a Special Meeting, and General Meeting.

We will be commencing at 2pm on February 6th at our usual venue, the Scout hall, 73 Alexander Road, Ulverstone. With afternoon
tea following all three.

A small plate of afternoon tea that has been commercially produced would be appreciated, this being a government suggested COVI
D thing, as producers have strict COVID regulations.

I have single packaged Tea, Coffee and Sugar and disposable cups for members, so it can be kept as safe as possible, and adhere
 to regulations

As usual if you have any unwell symptoms, or been about with anyone that has been overseas recently, or have any other situatio
n that could be covid related please don't turn up.

Make a note of the date of 6th February 2021 at the Scout Hall in Ulverstone at 2pm.

Northern Tasmanian Amateur Radio Club Incorporated

Tuesday we celebrate Australia Day. I imagine many will be celebrating with the traditional Australia Day BBQ, and many may hav
e taken that extra days leave tomorrow to give you a long weekend.

News is somewhat limited this week, so it will basically be a rehash of coming events but before that, we hand over to Nic VK7W
W for his report on our first official TestNet and TechNet session held on Wednesday 20th January. And Nic says:

â€The TestNet on 3580 at 7pm.
.

Wow! 5/8 with Peter VK7ALB, 5/9+ with Peter VK7ZPE and 5/9 with Rosco VK7ALH...also Strength 3 to 9 with Keith VK3MKE near Mt D
andenong (slow QSB).

Peter VK7KPC in Port Lincoln, SA could also detect the CW. But what was most interesting was that Keith in Victoria, reported h
earing a heterodyne before the Morse started. He (and others!) were also hearing the crystal oscillator/driver with an output o
f about 20milliwatts before Nic started keying the PA!

Stefan VK7ZSB made a recording (but couldnâ€Öt upload it onto Discord) and sent it to Nic VK7WW - thank you Stefan!

Thanks Paul VK7KPA for hosting Discord and Phil VK7ZPD - with 10 stations logged-in

On line topics and photos included:

    • VK7KPCs location in South Australia.

    • Links to RSGB balun presentations from Peter VK7PD

DATV Experimenter's Night

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbJm7tG8I2c

Last Wednesday night was started by Justin VK7TW and Anthony VK7LAG we started with The Summer VHF and Above Field Day with a w
onderful HAM Radio DX video by Hayden VK7HH on Richard VK7ZBX & Hayden VK7HH operating VK7OTC for the VHF/UHF Field Day from Mt
Wellington - entitled Proof that Ham's are crazy! Thanks to Hayden for the permission to play this video during the session.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXTsD60kXFY

Anthony VK7LAG then took the audience through his Summer Field Day at Tinderbox and he realised that he actually did four conte
sts in one day with the Summer Field Day, Ross Hull, SOTA summit and ew think WWFF! This was accompanied by pictures and detail
ed description. Thanks Anthony.

Justin VK7TW then took the audience through the anatomy of a SOTA activation of Mt Roland VK7/NC-003 and Mt VanDyke VK7/NC-028
on 17th January 2021. Justin showed a map, log and pictures of the activation along with the learnings of the activation.

We showed a recently received Waverley Amateur Radio Society Power Pole Kit that now comes with 3D printed template for the pow
erpoles and fuses. The kits now comes with fully 3D printed box.

We mentioned the recent VK3AML, VK3SL & VK3ASE trip to Deal Island with RF SSB and Optical contacts between Tasmania to Victor
ia and we showed the two VK3YE videos on the activation including VK3YE dropping the power level down to 8milliwatts.

Justin then mentioned that the WSJT-X 2.3.0 RC2 version stopped working on 19/1/21 and that to continue using the Version 2.3.0
you will need to install the RC3 version which will continue to operate to 26/1/21.

This coming Wednesday will continue our DATV Experimenterâ€Ös Night with antennas, satellites, magazine reviews, projects and m
uch much more. We get underway from 7:30pm in the Queenâ€Ös Domain clubrooms.

We will be providing DATV Experimenterâ€Ös Night throughout the holiday period so keep an eye on the REAST Facebook Events for
more details. Why not come up to the Queens Domain COVID-safe clubrooms and see what we get up to.

And a reminder that we go out on RF on 445.5MHz DVB-T 7MHz Standard Definition. So, if you have a TV, Set-top box or USB DTV Do
ngle that you can tune and scan 445.5MHz and you can see the Queens Domain, then you have a good chance of receiving the DATV E
xperimenter's Night Signal.

Look out for VK7OTC. We also stream the nights on the REAST YouTube channel.
