My goodness, how the month has flown. Here we are at the last broadcast for the month of January.

Today we celebrate Australia Day. I imagine many will be celebrating with the traditional Australia Day BBQ but please stop and
remember those many Australians who have lost their homes and all possessions in the recent fires. As we are aware, fires are
still burning in a number of States and many fire fighters are still working very hard to contain these fires either by land or
air, so please spare a thought for them today. We have had more than enough tragedy for the year already, let's pray they keep
safe as they go about their vital tasks.

NTARC has 2 members that celebrate their birthday today. I wonâ€Öt name them but we wish you a Happy Birthday and ironically, m
y Labrador Hamish turns 6 today.

Well enough of that we now hand over to Idris VK7ZIR to provide a rundown of the Technical session held last Wednesday 22nd Jan
uary - another Tech Session with a good turnout. There may be an antenna building evening in the offing, judging by some of the
comments heard tonight. Watch this space.

Nic VK7BEE staggered in with a huge Heathkkit Marauder HX-10 transmitter, it took up the space on half the Show-&-Tell table. R
esplendent in a green metal case with white faceplate and sliver knobs this example was in superb condition. Built in the USA d
uring the mid 1960â€Ös and producing 180W SSB and 75W AM across 10, 15, 20, 40 and 80 meters. I think it went home with Ross VK
7ALH!

Peter VK7KPC had another of his military collection in a small radio labelled “Radio Receiver/Transmitter RT-175A”. With th
e environmental sleeve removed, the internal layout revealed typical military precision construction, with a lovely five gang v
ariable capacitor in the prominent position. Peter also brought in an interesting, very old GDO. Thanks Peter.

We welcomed three visitors this evening; Pat VK8PLT an expat originally from the East Coast, Al VK7AN and another expat, Tim VK
7TIM/VK2ZTH.

Many topics ebbed and flowed across the main table with discussions on solar installations and experiences with installers, mar
ine radio licencing and history of local shipping and the prominent characters thereof. Many sausage rolls were consumed during
 this time!

An enjoyable evening with good company.

73, Idris VK7ZIR

Coming events

Technical session - The next session will be on Wednesday 29th January and will commence at the usual time of 7.30 pm, running
through to 10.30 pm, at the Club room Archer Street, Rocherlea. Pop in catch up with fellow amateurs, bring along something tha
t you are currently building or just ask questions? You might also be able to answer some from other attendees. That is what th
e evenings are all about, anything of a technical or near-technical nature, however defined, is fair game. Endless tea and coff
ee along with biscuits is available for a small gold coin donation.

For all you techo night attendees, early warning that you need to note your diaries that there will be no Technical session on
Wednesday 12th February, due to our AGM being held that evening, but we do hope to see you at the AGM..

Working bee - Saturday 1st February from 10:00 at the Clubrooms. Jobs will be installing a watering system in the garden, gener
al clean up around the grounds and upgrading our security system. See you there.

February Annual General meeting - the Annual General Meeting of NTARC will take place on Wednesday 12th February 2020 at the NT
ARC Club Rooms, Rocherlea Scout Hall, Archer Street Rocherlea commencing at 19:30 hours (7.30 pm).

Business at the AGM will consist of confirmation of the Minutes of the 2019 AGM, then reception and consideration of reports fr
om the Committee, including the Treasurer's report and reports from our various managers and coordinators. This will be followe
d by the election of officer bearers and committee person for 2020. The meeting will then consider any item of special business
for which the requisite notice has been received by the closing date of 6th February.

All current office holder and committee positions fall vacant at the AGM. Nominations for each office bearer and the Committee
member are invited and should be made in writing to the Secretary, along with the signatures of the Nominator, Seconder and tha
t of the member nominated. Appointments will also be required to the positions of Internal Auditor and Public Officer.

Please note that for your convenience a nomination form is now available from the NTARC club room. Please ensure that the compl
eted nomination form is returned to the Secretary by COB 6th February 2020 at the following address: The Secretary, NTARC Inc.
PO Box 275 Launceston Tas 7250 or it can be handed to the Secretary in a sealed envelope at either coffee mornings.

Members are reminded that they will need to have paid their 2020 renewal subscription before the meeting commences at 19:30 hou
rs (7.30 pm) to be able to vote at the Annual General meeting. Similarly, they will need to have paid their 2020 subscription b
efore they can be nominated or nominate or second someone for office, as only financial members can exercise those privileges.

A reminder to all those that are required to write reports that time is marching on, so please start to think about it and put
pen to paper. It would be appreciated if a hard copy of your report could be sent to the following email;

	ntarc.emails @ gmail.com

by Monday 10th February to assist in preparing the necessary paper work for the AGM.

The AGM will be followed by the February General meeting.

Coffee mornings - A reminder that our twice-weekly coffee sessions are now back in full swing and they are held every Monday an
d Friday commencing at 10.00 am and running through till about noon or longer if members want to linger longer. Tomorrow Monday
27th is a public holiday but we will be open. Please remember that aside from the good company, freely offered philosophical v
iews, maybe less than expert political analysis, tall tales and genuinely good fare on offer, these coffee events are normally
a good opportunity to collect your QSL cards. Currently we have no cards awaiting collection. As I remind all every week, pleas
e demonstrate your appreciation of all the effort that goes into operating the club and its facilities and the other services w
e provide, by joining us at these sessions, enjoying the company, coffee and the cake and leaving a gold coin or two, or even a
small bank note, in the jar to assist in our on-going operations. I donâ€Öt know of any other venue in Launceston, or further
afield for that matter, where you can get endless coffee, tea and eats for a donation of this miniscule amount.
Finally

A reminder to all members that if you have any items of news you would like added to our weekly roundup, then please email them
 to the following address

	ntarc.emails @ gmail.com

However, it would be appreciated if any news could be sent no later than 17:00 hours on the Friday prior to broadcast, to allow
its timely insertion into the NTARC segment.

That gives all a chance to get the NTARC segment together and off to Hobart in time for collation into the VK7 Broadcast. Your
continued cooperation in this regard will be gratefully appreciated.

As always, I look forward to seeing you at Rocherlea.

(73, Yvonne AX7FYMX, Secretary NTARC Inc)

DATV Experimenter's Night Wrap-Up

Last week we had a wrap up of the Summer VHF/UHF Field Day with Hayden VK7HH and Richard VK7ZBX. We covered trials and tribulat
ions, learnings, scores and best contacts and funny stories. Thanks to Hayden and Richard.

We then moved on to the RF Demo PCB for the NanoVNA and went through what can be demonstrated with the PCB. Then a look at the
new RaspberryPi Model 4 and the differences with the previous models.

Justin finished off with a promo for the WIA Annual Conference and outlined the dinner keynote speaker - Professor Elizabeth Le
ane. We then followed this up with a couple of videos from Prof Leane.

Our videos included - 122GHz and Cassegrains Talk by VK5KK, ham radio crash course with a segment on RFI, a demo of why a good
VNA calibration kits is essential with Dr David Kirby and an interesting video about the the logistics of living in Antarctica.

Out in the Clubrooms - Ron was checking a selection of 900MHz and 5.8GHz antennas with the NanoVNA.

This week we focus on some projects that are on the move including a homebrew noise canceller of the VK5BR design, GPSDO's and
1296 amplifiers.

We go out on RF on 445.5MHz DVB-T 7MHz Standard Definition. So, if you have a TV, Set-top box or USB DTV Dongle that you can tu
ne and scan 445.5MHz and you can see the Queens Domain, then you have a good chance of receiving the DATV Experimenter's Night
Signal. Look out for VK7OTC. We also stream the nights on the REAST YouTube channel and Facebook.

ISS / ARISS News
ARISS Contact Opportunity Call for Proposals February 1, 2020 to March 31, 2020

The Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Program is seeking formal and informal education institutions and
organizations, individually or working together, to host an Amateur Radio contact with a crew member on board the ISS. ARISS is
happy to announce a proposal window which will open February 1, 2020 for contacts that would be held between January 2021 and
June 2021. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits will determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact opportunities
, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-develop
ed education plan.

The proposal window for contacts between January 2021. and June 2021 will open on February 1, 2020 and close on March 31. 2020.
Proposal information and documents can be found at www.ariss.org. Two ARISS Introductory Webinar sessions will be held on two
different date and times. The first is at January 23 at 2100 ET and the second is at January 27 at 1800 ET. The same material w
ill be covered during both sessions, so choose the session that best fits your schedule. The Eventbrite link to sign up is avai
lable on the email version of this broadcast.

https://ariss-proposal-webinar-spring-2020.eventbrite.com
The Opportunity

Crew members aboard the International Space Station will participate in scheduled Amateur Radio contacts. These radio contacts
are approximately 10 minutes in length and allow students to interact with the astronauts through a question-and-answer session
.

An ARISS contact is a voice-only communication opportunity via Amateur Radio between astronauts and cosmonauts aboard the space
station and classrooms and communities. ARISS contacts afford education audiences the opportunity to learn firsthand from astr
onauts what it is like to live and work in space and to learn about space research conducted on the ISS. Students also will hav
e an opportunity to learn about satellite communication, wireless technology, and radio science. Because of the nature of human
spaceflight and the complexity of scheduling activities aboard the ISS, organizations must demonstrate flexibility to accommod
ate changes in dates and times of the radio contact.

Amateur Radio organizations around the world with the support of NASA and space agencies in Russia, Canada, Japan and Europe pr
esent educational organizations with this opportunity. The ham radio organizations' volunteer efforts provide the equipment and
operational support to enable communication between crew on the ISS and students around the world using Amateur Radio.
