VK7 AR News
Missing Emails
A number of people on the VK7 AR News groups.io mailing list have reported not receiving emails from the mailing list.
This problem relates to certain ISP's not allowing mail from particular domains.
This is controlled by the ISP having SPF and/or DMARC record in their DNS for the particular server/domains.
SPF and DMARC records help ISPs reduce the amount of SPAM coming into their email servers and if an email comes from a server w
ithout one of these records then the email is ignored.
The solution is to contact your ISP and get them to add an SPF Records relating to email from the groups.io server/domain into
their DNS configuration.

WIA News
WIA Future of Amateur Radio Program
Over the past few weeks the WIA has been in discussions with the ACMA regarding resolving the foundation callsign issues that t
hat have been brought to the attention of the ACMA in the WIA LCD submissions earlier this year.
The ACMA has asked, and the WIA has agreed, to put in place a mechanism for seeking credible feedback from all amateur users i
n Australia.Â
As a result of this agreement, the WIA is pleased to announce the "Future of Amateur Radio" program.
The WIA encourages all licenced operators, regardless of whether or not they are a member of the WIA to join the program and h
ave their say on issues that are of importance to the Amateur Service.Â
The program will consist of a series of information papers on issues important to Amateur Radio, each of which will be followe
d by a poll.  This process will allow every amateur radio operator, armed with the facts and recommendations around each m
atter to consider, debate and ultimately vote on the course of action to be taken.
Members of your club who are existing WIA members will automatically be included in this program, however, should they wish to
opt-out for any reason, please ask them to
email nationaloffice @ wia.org.au.
The objectives of this program are best met by having the largest percentage of the amateur operators participate. Â
We would like to enlist your assistance in achieving this outcome by asking your fellow club members and friends to register
for the program and have their say.
Registration in the Future of Amateur Radio program is free, and can be accessed by following the link on the email version of
this broadcast:
http://poll.wia.org.au.
Kind regards,
Aidan Mountford VK4APM, Vice-President, Wireless Institute of Australia

Home of the Good Guys
The Club is very grateful to Ron VK7HRM & Dale VK7NDH, who have been trying to get a beam erected at Steve VK7EQ, but with only
a few young and agile members it hadn't happened.
A conversation with Dale, and he said they would have a go, so a big thank you to them for getting Steve on 70cm. This is a fre
quency he did not have access to before. So, if you see or hear them on air, give them a big thank you, for helping our club me
mber.
It's another job off our list and hopefully you will hear Steve, through one of the repeaters on the State-wide link, VK7RAC 70
cm, VK7RAA 2m, VK7RTC 70cm, VK7RWC 2m or VK7RAL 70cm.

We begin today with a get well message to NTARC member Ross VK7ALH. It appears Ross has joined that elite group of NTARC member
s who have required some form of heart surgery at LGH. Due to this happening, Ross missed the club Christmas dinner last Wednes
day evening but I understand that all has gone well and he hopes to be at coffee on Monday. Talk about dedication, not to menti
on how amazing and how far cardiac surgery has advanced over the years. So Ross, from the NTARC Family we wish you all the best
and a speedy recovery and trust you are not annoying Merilyn too much.
Ross was not the only one to miss the NTARC end of year Christmas dinner last Wednesday, 11th December though. As this event co
incided with my twin granddaughtersâ€Ö 6th Grade concert I was also unable to attend, so I will now hand over to Idris VK7ZIR f
or a report on the event.
Round up on end of year dinner - Twenty seven members rocked up to the Commercial Hotel in Launceston on Wednesday evening for
the annual NTARC Christmas Dinner. There was much laughter and cheerful banter going on as we all discussed the menu before ord
ering. There was a huge selection, something for everyone. Lorraine had equipped the tables with Christmas crackers so we had a
n enjoyable session pulling crackers and reading out the dreadful jokes inside. Ebenezer VK7AT was heard to comment that he cou
ld have done a far better job, but thatâ€Ös what crackers are like. Orders were taken and service was reasonably fast. The food
was magnificent, everyone was happy. There was a disappointing moment when deserts were ordered, when it was found that they h
ad run out of Sticky Date Puddings, but the Apple Crumble substituted admirably. A great time was had by all. We all made our w
ay home thoroughly satisfied.

2020 Membership fees – Renewal membership notices have now all been sent to members who have listed their email address with
us, along with those members who have only a postal address listed with us. So, if you haven't received your notice yet then th
ere is every chance that we donâ€Öt have your correct information on record. If you find yourself in this position, please cont
act the Treasurer on treasurer@ntarc.net or the Secretary on ntarc.emails@gmail.com
Just a reminder though that your 2019 membership expires on 31 December and if you havenâ€Öt renewed by that date you will then
be listed as an unfinancial member on the register.
In case you have forgotten NTARCâ€Ös 2020 membership fees are $35.00 for a Full voting member and $5 additional for each Family
member that the voting member wishes to add to his or her primary membership.
As all listeners must be aware, the replacement of aging legacy equipment along with other ongoing care and maintenance of our
repeater systems does not come cheap. For you to be able to continue to enjoy this aspect of your hobby and for NTARC to contin
ue to provide this great network, we need your support now.
If you are not a member of NTARC please consider joining. If you have been a member in the past but have let that membership la
pse for any reason, please consider rejoining. In either case, an application form can be found on our website www.ntarc.net
or why not pop into the clubroom on a Monday or Friday, during coffee hours and collect an application. You will be made most w
elcome.
If club membership is not your cup of tea, we fully understand. In those circumstances, perhaps you might care to make a direct
donation to our repeater fund, rather than pay a yearly subscription. If so, we would be happy to receive your contribution, e
ither in person at a club meeting or coffee morning, or by post to PO BOX 275 Launceston 7250. Any donation will gladly be acce
pted. All donations will be officially receipted and noted accordingly against the repeater project.
Coming events
Technical sessions The last technical session for 2019 will be on Wednesday 18th December and will commence at the usual time
of 7.30 pm, running through to 10.30 pm, at the Club room Archer Street, Rocherlea. Pop in catch up with fellow amateurs, bring
along something that you are currently building or just ask questions? You might also be able to answer some from other attend
ees. That is what the evenings are all about, anything of a technical or near-technical nature, however defined, is fair game.
Endless tea and coffee along with biscuits is available for a small gold coin donation.
The first technical session for 2020 will be Wednesday 15th January so please note your calendar.
January meeting to be held on Saturday 11th January. We will not be having a BBQ on this day due to many members still being aw
ay on holidays. Meeting will commence at 14:00 Hours (2.00pm) and will be followed by afternoon tea. Donations of cakes, slices
etc to share would be greatly appreciated.
February Annual General meeting – the Annual General Meeting of NTARC will take place on Wednesday 12th February 2020 at the
NTARC Club Rooms, Rocherlea Scout Hall, Archer Street Rocherlea commencing at 19:30 hours (7.30 pm).
Business at the AGM will consist of confirmation of the Minutes of the 2019 AGM, then reception and consideration of reports fr
om the Committee, including the Treasurer's report and reports from our various managers and coordinators. This will be followe
d by the election of officer bearers and committee person for 2020. The meeting will then consider any item of special business
for which the requisite notice has been received by the closing date.
All current office holder and committee positions fall vacant at the AGM. Nominations for each office bearer and the Committee
member are invited and should be made in writing to the Secretary, along with the signatures of the Nominator, Seconder and tha
t of the member nominated. Appointments will also be required to the positions of Internal Auditor and Public Officer.
Please note that for your convenience a nomination form will be available from the NTARC club room from Monday 6th January 2020
, our first day of opening for the coming year.
Members are reminded that they will need to have paid their 2020 renewal subscription before the meeting commences at 19:30 hou
rs (7.30 pm) to be able to vote at the Annual General meeting. Similarly, they will need to have paid their 2020 subscription b
efore they can be nominated or nominate or second someone for office, as only financial members can exercise those privileges.
The AGM will be followed by the February General meeting.
Coffee mornings A reminder that our twice-weekly coffee sessions are normally held every Monday and Friday commencing at 10.00
am and running through till about noon or longer if members want to linger longer. Please remember that aside from the good com
pany, freely offered philosophical views, maybe less than expert political analysis, tall tales and genuinely good fare on offe
r, these coffee events are normally a good opportunity to collect your QSL cards. Currently we have no cards awaiting collectio
n. As I remind all every week, please demonstrate your appreciation of all the effort that goes into operating the club and its
facilities and the other services we provide, by joining us at these sessions, enjoying the company, coffee and the cake and l
eaving a gold coin or two, or even a small bank note, in the jar to assist in our on-going operations. I donâ€Öt know of any ot
her venue in Launceston, or further afield for that matter, where you can get endless coffee, tea and eats for a donation of th
is miniscule amount.
Christmas and New Year closure – the last day the club will be open in 2019 for coffee mornings will be Friday 20th December.
We re-open on Monday 6th January 2020. This gives all members and especially the team that set up each week some down time to
celebrate with family and friends.
Finally
A reminder to all members that if you have any items of news you would like added to our weekly roundup, then please email them
to the following
address ntarc.emails @ gmail.com
However, it would be appreciated if any news could be sent no later than 17:00 hours on the Friday prior to broadcast, to allow
its timely insertion into the NTARC segment.
That gives all a chance to get the NTARC segment together and off to Hobart in time for collation into the VK7 Broadcast. Your
continued cooperation in this regard will be gratefully appreciated.
As always I look forward to seeing you at Rocherlea.

REAST has been successful in getting a Tasmanian Community Fund grant to install two new heat pumps in the Queen's Domain clubr

DATV Experimenter's Night
We started the night welcoming Glen Aldis who restores AWA radios and he came along to see what we got up to. Glen is bringing
along a current project this Wednesday night for us to look at.
Ron and Richard VK7ZBX were working through his RaspberryPi download and playout box in the clubrooms.
In the Studio Justin VK7TW took the audience through the tuning process for a 1/4 wavelength vertical using some simple calcula
tion and NanoVNA to do some empirical measurements and cutting of aluminium welding rod until you get the lowest SWR for the fr
equency you are tuning for.
We then moved to the recent release of the NanoVNA-F model and an 18 function RF Demo PCB to test your NanoVNA with.
A quick review of the latest AR Magazine and LowKey Magazines followed.
An interview with Pip and Julia from Sisters Akousmatica then happened and they took our audience through the highlights for th
e first three weeks of their installation. They outlined that they have received over 100 radio sound scapes from artists all o
ver the world. The Sisters have the last three days of their installation from Thurs, Fri & Sat. Thanks Pip and Julia.
We then went to our videos for the night and retired to the car park to tune a quarter wave whip antenna for the Sister to impr
ove their radio coverage.
We finished up the night with coffee and biscuits.
This week we hope to see many along with their end of year projects to show them off as this is the last one before Christmas.
We are looking to maybe have a DATV night on Christmas night as a special treat for all those people who may want a break from
their families and to show off the new rig they found under the Christmas tree watch out on the REAST Facebook Page for more in
formation.
We go out on RF on 445.5MHz DVB-T 7MHz Standard Definition. So, if you have a TV, Set-top box or USB DTV Dongle that you can tu
ne to 445.5MHz, and do a scan for a DVB-T signal, and, you can see the Queens Domain, then you have a good chance of receiving
the DATV Experimenter's Night Signal. Look out for VK7OTC. We also stream the nights on the REAST YouTube channel and Facebook.

Technical News
Tasmania's ESCAD implementation completed
Fujitsu has completed the implementation of an Emergency Services Computer Aided Dispatch (ESCAD) system for Ambulance Tasmania
.
The milestone see the completion of the integration of emergency systems across all emergency service organisations in Tasmania
, including Police, Fire Service, Ambulance and State Emergency Service.
ESCAD enables real-time sharing of incident details, resource location, hazards and warnings as well as status tracking between
Police, Fire, SES and Ambulance agencies.
The expectation is that this will improve operational response time and the safety of frontline responders and the community.
ESCAD simplifies the handling of calls for assistance, including those made to Triple Zero. It removes a number of manual proce
sses and inefficiencies caused by separate systems to provide streamlined handling of calls between emergency services response
units.
This includes reducing or eliminating the need for phone calls to multiple agencies to coordinate a response.
s a seamlessly integrated system between all our emergency services, allowing us to share information in real time across agenc
ies for an improved response. We are confident that this world-class system will play a key part in saving lives of Tasmanians
for years to come,” said Scott Tilyard, Tasmania Police Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson of the ESCAD Steering Committee.
The move to ESCAD was begun in April 2016. The Tasmanian Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management contracted Fujitsu
to deliver the system along with configuration, customisation, interface development, training materials, and ongoing support
and maintenance services.
Tasmania Police was the first agency to go live, in October 2017, followed by the Tasmania Fire Service in November 2018.
