...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM THE FLORIDA
PANHANDLE INTO SOUTHERN GEORGIA...
...SUMMARY... A couple of strong thunderstorms capable of producing
marginally severe wind gusts, could impact a narrow corridor across
the Florida Panhandle and parts of southern Georgia this evening
into tonight.
...Florida Panhandle/Southern Georgia... The latest water
vapor imagery shows west-southwesterly mid-level flow over the
southeastern U.S. At the surface, a moist airmass is located from
Florida to South Carolina where surface dewpoints are in the 60s
F. The RAP suggests that weak instability is present across the
moist airmass with MLCAPE generally from 500 to 1000 J/kg. Scattered
thunderstorms are ongoing near this axis of instability near the
coast of the Florida Panhandle. Thunderstorms may also develop
further northeastward into southern Georgia this evening. Regional
WSR-88D VWPs near the instability axis show moderate deep-layer shear
with about 30 kt of flow near 1 km above ground level. This combined
with the instability could be enough for a localized severe threat
this evening. A few marginally severe wind gusts will be possible
with the stronger multicells.
